The Nigerian Spine Society wishes to identify with the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) in marking the 2019 Spinal Cord Injury Day.
Since its inception on 5th September 2016, the ‘Spinal Cord Injury Day’ has been meeting an increasing success around the world, under different slogans: ‘Yes We Can’ in 2017 and ‘Stop Spinal Cord Injury’ in 2018.
This year, the focus will be on recreational activities, with the slogan ‘Living Life to the Fullest’.
It is in this regard that the NSS is calling on the relevant authorities to develop policies to make life meaningful to those unfortunate enough to suffer spinal cord injury. Life can only be meaningful if the requisite care is made available. Immediate and subsequent care should be covered by insurance schemes while facilities that can provide the needed care get supported with soft loans to procure equipment and manpower. This should set the stage for considering employment opportunities and recreational activities including competitive sport to support spinal cord injured persons in “Living Life to the Fullest”.
The Nigerian Spine Society is prepared to partner with relevant government and private organisations interested in pursuing this noble course.

President Nigerian Spine Society.
